DIY: sunglass pinboard

i have this problem where i lose and break sunglasses all the time. just the moment
i decide to finally invest in a nice pair, i lose them, forcing me to go back to my $10 ones!

for those of you who have this same problem, i have found a solution that will help (at least a little)!

a do-it-yourself sunglass pinboard. for keeping your sunnies safe and sound and all in one place.

total time: 10-15 minutes

what you'll need
pinboard, any size or style
pretty paper (if desired)
there are great options at paper source
pushpins (cute or simple will work)
scissors
wire
your collection of sunglasses

instructions

1. first, assemble all the supplies you'll need.

2. lay out your sunglasses on the pinboard to get a feel for how they'll all fit.
for example, do you want the pinboard to sit horizontally or vertically?

3. measure out your cute paper (if using) and fit to the corkboard section of your board.
mine slipped right under the edge of frame, holding it in place.
if yours doesn't stay in place, no worries. the pins we'll put in later will help.

4. measure out your wire to stretch across your board, allowing 4-6" extra inches to work
with on either side. twist the wire around the push pin tightly and then trim off ends.
measure it across the board again, in your desired location, and do the same for the second pushpin. stretch the wire across the board and secure the pins in place. you'll want the wire to be taut.

5. repeat step four until you have all the wires in place.
i laid out my sunglasses again after i had the first wire in place
to be sure i had the right amount of room between my two wires.

6. feel free to put your sunnies in place while the corkboard
is still laying flat and then move to desired location.

7. feel free to rotate out seasonally appropriate paper patterns
or place pins replace sunnies with jewelry of all kinds.

the lazy girl's guide to decorating easter eggs

i don't know about you, but i love the little traditions
that come along with each season and holiday.

this year however, the thought of decorating eggs felt
both exciting and daunting all at the same time.

so i decided to do the quickest, easiest,
no-nonsense egg decorating of all time.
HELLO!

it's not too late to make this happen before your Easter celebration this Sunday! :)

what you'll need
1 dozen brown eggs
white, non-toxic paint pens, small and large
(i got mine at office max for $1.99 each)

what to do

1. feel free to hard boil your eggs
OR if you're LAZY like me - just decorate them as they are!

2. carefully use paint pens to draw designs all over your eggs,
being careful not to smudge the paint.
i found that it dries relatively quickly and didn't get smudges unless i was really careless.

3. voila! how easy is that???

DIY mason jars

i'm currently obsessed with mason jars of all shapes and sizes.
they are so versatile and cheap, and i'm convinced you can use them for anything.

i've currently been making some of my own vases and luminaries, as seen here and here.

my version was pretty simple...
1. spray paint white
2. sprinkle with glitter

here are some other ideas for you...

enjoy!!

party pinwheels

cute party inspiration...
homemade pinwheels!

here's what you'll need:
cute paper
(double sided works great!)
scissors
ruler
pixie sticks
push pin fasteners (with back)
small cute stickers (optional)

directions

1. measure and cut paper into 5" x 5" squares

2. cut 3.25" slits diagonally towards center

3. push the pin through the first corner of the paper
(be sure to leave enough room so it doesn't rip through the edge)

4. continue poking the push pin through each opposite corner
until every other corner is gathered into the middle

5. poke push pin through the very center of the back of the pinwheel

6. press through the top of a pixie stick
(careful not to create a hole where the candy will spill!)
secure back

7. place sticker on the middle of the silver pushpin if your heart desires

8. have fun!
i made valentine versions and moustache versions :)

wedding invitations, etc.

yesterday i had the privilege of having a whole day filled with wedding festivities!
my mom, future sister-in-law and i tried on bridesmaid dresses,
went to the seattle wedding show, bought wedding shoes
AND attended a 'how to make your own wedding invititation' class at paper source.

if you know me, you know i love paper source!! :)
and in past seasons of life, i would maybe have considered myself to be pretty crafty.
but life gets busy.... and there seems to be less and less time for hobbies like this.
ANYWAY, i had a great time! it made me want to throw twelve parties,
just so i could make the cute invitations!

we learned to make super easy invitations, table tents,
place cards, stickers, envelope liners and more!

i would seriously recommend this class to anyone and everyone!

i loved looking through the inspiration boards for ideas...

i think the easiest and most practical thing i learned was how to do envelope liners!
seriously SUCH a great way to spice up any envelope...
christmas cards, thank you cards, anything!

they sell templates for any envelope size - but obviously
it's super easy to just trace these on your own.

basic idea: buy plain envelope, but cute patterned paper to line the insides. genius!

LOVE THESE! does anyone have a toddler's birthday coming up?
i'll create your birthday party invitations!!! ;)

planning!

love these invitation box ideas....
kind of expensive to send to everybody, BUT a great idea for a wedding shower,
or maybe even asking your bridesmaids to be a part of your special day!

<3!

so excited for all the upcoming weddings!

(congrats marcy & luke!)
